How to Read Your New Lee Enterprises Statement

Your Lee Enterprises statement has a new look and provides a consolidated view of your advertising account, including invoices, payments, credits, adjustments, aging, and the total amount due.

The format may look different from statements you received previously, but the goal is simple: help you understand what was billed, what activity occurred on your account, and what remains due.

What is it?

Your statement is your monthly summary of account activity with Lee Enterprises. It brings together the financial activity associated with your advertising account during the statement period.

Here is how to read each section:

Account and Statement Information

At the top of the statement, you will find the key information used to identify your account and statement:

  • Account Number – Your Lee Enterprises customer account number. Use this number when making payments or contacting us with billing questions.
  • Statement Number – The unique reference number assigned to this particular statement.
  • Statement Period – The date range covered by the statement.
  • Amount Due / Total Due – The total open balance on your account as of the statement.
  • Payment Terms – The payment terms associated with your account.

The statement also includes a detachable remittance section for customers submitting payment by mail.

Previous Statement Balance

The Previous Statement Balance represents the balance carried forward from your prior monthly statement.

From there, new invoices, payments, credits, refunds, and other account activity are added or subtracted to arrive at your current Total Due.

This section is especially helpful when comparing your current statement with the one you received the previous month.

Advertising Invoices

The Advertising Invoices section lists advertising that has been billed to your account.

Each invoice may include:

  • Transaction date
  • Invoice ID
  • Campaign ID
  • Campaign or invoice description
  • Advertising product
  • Product or run dates
  • Quantity or impressions
  • Purchase order information, when applicable
  • Amount billed

Depending on how your campaign was set up, you may see different levels of detail.

Some invoices may display only the campaign description and total amount. Others may show the individual advertising products included in the campaign, and some may also display the amount associated with each product.

This allows the statement to connect your billing back to the specific campaigns and advertising activity associated with your account.

Other Account Activity

The Other Account Activity section displays financial activity that is not a standard advertising invoice or payment.

Depending on activity on your account, this section may include items such as:

  • Credits
  • Adjustments
  • Miscellaneous invoices
  • Refund-related transactions
  • Write-offs
  • Fees or fee adjustments

These transactions can either increase or decrease your balance.

As noted directly on the statement, negative amounts reduce your balance.

Payments and Refunds

The Payments and Refunds section shows payments that have been received and refunds that have been processed.

This section may include:

  • Payment date
  • Payment type
  • Payment or transaction reference
  • Payment amount
  • Refund information
  • Applicable credit card fee detail

Payments normally appear as negative amounts because they reduce the balance you owe.

If you recently submitted a payment and do not yet see it on your statement, keep in mind that the statement advises allowing up to five business days for a payment to be applied to your account.

Aging Summary

The Aging Summary shows how your open balance is distributed based on the age of the outstanding invoices.

Your statement may separate balances into:

  • 0–30 days
  • 31–60 days
  • 61–90 days
  • 91–120 days
  • 121+ days

You may also see a Cash on Account amount. This represents unapplied cash or another credit balance currently sitting on the account.

The Total Due at the end of the Aging Summary represents your complete open account balance across the aging categories.

This is important because the Total Due does not necessarily mean every dollar shown is past due. The aging columns show which portions of your balance are newer and which have been outstanding longer.

Payment Information

The bottom of the statement provides payment instructions and information about available payment options.

Customers can use the information shown on the statement to make payment and access their account online.

If mailing a payment, include the remittance slip or your full Account Number so the payment can be properly applied.

The statement also includes information about online payment options and any applicable credit card processing surcharge.

Why am I receiving it?

You receive a statement to provide one consolidated monthly view of your Lee Enterprises account.

Although individual advertising campaigns may generate separate invoices, your statement brings your account activity together so you do not have to review each invoice individually just to understand your overall balance.

It allows you to see:

  • What balance carried forward from the previous month
  • What new advertising was billed
  • What payments were received
  • What credits, refunds, or adjustments were processed
  • How old your open invoices are
  • What your current Total Due is

Your statement is therefore the best place to start when you want to understand the overall status of your account.

What actions should I take?

When you receive your statement, we recommend reviewing the following:

  • Confirm that the Account Number belongs to your business.
  • Review the Statement Period.
  • Review the Advertising Invoices and make sure the campaigns listed are familiar.
  • Confirm that recent Payments and Refunds appear as expected.
  • Review any Other Account Activity, especially credits or adjustments.
  • Review the Aging Summary to identify any older outstanding invoices.
  • Review the Total Due and submit payment according to your payment terms.

If you need more detail about a particular advertising charge, use the Invoice ID or Campaign ID shown on the statement when reviewing your records or contacting Lee.

Individual invoices can also provide additional detail about the advertising associated with a charge.

Where do I go with questions?

If you have questions about an invoice, payment, credit, adjustment, or balance shown on your statement, please contact:

Lee Enterprises Finance Department: 1-800-798-1717
Email: advertiserbilling@lee.net

You may also contact your Lee sales representative.

When contacting us, please have your Account Number available. If your question relates to a specific charge, providing the Invoice ID or Campaign ID shown on the statement will help us locate the activity more quickly.

A simple way to remember the difference between your documents is:

Your Campaign Confirmation tells you what was ordered. Your invoice tells you what was billed. Your monthly statement brings all of your account activity together and tells you what is currently due.
